Are you picking the right equipment for your home?

Equipment For Your Lawn

Walking down the aisles at your favorite home and garden stores like Lowes or Home Depot are always an adventure and burn hole in your pocket. What truly are the best and the worst tools to get for your yard? Can some of the equipment really help maintain a beautiful lawn or is it just a waste of good hard-earned money? Some things that you may want to consider before making lawn care tool purchases include: the size of your lawn, what type of terrain are you dealing with, are there a lot of obstacles for you to work around, and the quality of the tools/equipment that you want to purchase. Let us find the best lawn care tools for your particular purpose and for your lawn as well.

Lawn Mower

You have two choices when it comes to lawn mowers, and it all depends on you and your yard. Push mowers or riding mowers are the two options to start with when picking the best tools and take into consideration not only the amount of grass you will be cutting but also the terrain you will be cutting in. Push mowers will work nicely for a lawn that is not too large, for people who want to get some exercise while mowing their lawn, or for people who don’t want to spend too much money. Riding lawn mowers may work better for people who have more acreage to mow, or for those who want more power in their mowing equipment. Among lawn mowers, you will find a wide range of electric options, gas-powered options, deck width, adaptable options, and many other comparisons that should be taken into consideration prior to choosing the right one for your purpose.

Trimmers and Edgers

Trimmers and edgers play important roles in keeping your lawn shaped and looking clean. So let us look at a couple of things to make sure we don’t look like we have made a costly mistake with our lawns. Trimmers are used to cut the grass/ weeds in smaller areas, where the lawn mower cannot reach.  They are very useful in flower beds, mailboxes, and around those outdoor furniture or playgrounds. Trimmers are available in electric models or in gas-powered models and although most trimmers use plastic string to cut through grass blades some gas-powered options have metal blades for use in more robust trimming situations. Edgers are used for the purpose of fine-tuning the aesthetic appeal of a lawn and can help make precision cuts around the perimeter of your lawn and any edges as well.  Although a trimmer can be used for the purpose of edging a lawn, a true edger will make the lawn look cleaner and more precise around the edges. They can also create trenches around flowerbeds and driveways.

Sprinklers and Hoses

If you don’t want to invest in a professionally installed irrigation system, a water hose and sprinkler are must haves on your lawn tool list. Summers in Georgia are extremely hot, and rain is not always expected to come in a timely fashion. The right amount of water is necessary to promote growth and strengthen the roots of the grass. Be sure to research how much water your grass type needs and how often it should be watered. This goes for the plants and trees you have around your home.

Rakes, Spreaders, Pruners, and Shears

Those final touches to your lawns and gardens can make all the difference in the world from looking like the famous image of master’s hole 16 or looking like a farm on a rainy muddy day. Rakes help collect fallen leaves on your grass, or to help spread cut grass around the lawn, spread pine needles or mulch, and for many other useful purposes too. A spreader is used to sprinkle grass seed around the lawn. They are available in a hand-held version or on wheels. When it comes to caring for your shrubs, flowers, or trees, having a pair of pruners and shears handy will be beneficial to have on hand. Aside from the more common lawn tools there are numerous other tools perfect for every lawn project.
