Backyard Fire Pits
Cold nights, smores with the kids, and just a hang out type of oasis with the friends are all great excuses to build your dream fire pit in the luxury of your home. Different types of fire pits bring different variations of you may or may not be looking for when adding that extra touch to your home.
Wood burn fire pit
While fire pits offer warmth and ambiance, be mindful of the wood you choose to burn. Using the wrong type can impact your safety or even for the environment that’s around you.
· Hardwood burns slow, clean, long-lasting fire
· Softwood ignites quickly
· Never burn driftwood, treated or painted wood, wood with vines, green wood, or allergenic wood
Smokeless Fire pit
If you don't want to see smoke in your fire pit, the fuel must burn extremely high. Smokeless fire pits use vent holes to burn hot enough to achieve complete combustion inside the burn chamber. The vent holes keep the fire blazing by drawing in oxygen, letting it flow between the outer and inner walls of the chamber. This eliminates any excess smoke and the odors that come with it.
Gas Fire pit
With just the flip of a switch or push of a button, gas fire pits can be easily ignited and provide instant heat to create a cozy atmosphere for outdoor gatherings. Natural gas is also, on average, cheaper than using propane or firewood. Because it's less expensive, you can spend more time in front of the fire without worrying about your budget. Today's gas fire pits can incorporate lava rock, glass rocks, pebbles, and other accents to complement your outside decor.
Things to never burn
· No old furniture because it could be a copycat would like particleboard and has a lot of wood glue that keeps it together
· Nothing plastic
· Wooden pallets can contain a lot of methyl bromide, a chemical that can be dangerous and toxic
· Anything that has poison in front of it like poison sumac, poison ivy, poison oak
· Yard waste can do more harm than good because it can trigger allergies and cause a lot of unpleasant smoke which can be very harsh to your lungs
· Old magazines are not a good idea to burn because the ink that is used releases toxic fumes when burned
