Holiday season is right around the corner
We all celebrate the holidays differently. Some stick with tradition, some like to do something a little different and out of the normal, then there are others who just take it year by year and maybe start their own traditions. Celebrating the holidays here in the United States is a way for everyone family and friends to connect through celebration, gratefulness, and spreading holiday joy. The season is a time of giving, whether it’s in your community or just a loved one.
Acts of kindness, donations, service at a homeless shelter there is more than one way to give back during the holiday. Getting ready for Santa can be a great way to clean out all those toys the kids don’t play with anymore and give them to Goodwill or a shelter. Cooking a warm meal to handout to the needy on the streets or volunteering and any event that requires service for others are some ways to bring in the holiday cheer to others. If you’re handy with some crotchets make blankets and hats to give out. Even if the funds are not there the simplest but can be very meaningful service you can do is make a holiday card for those who might be spending them alone.
Starting new traditions can be a wide range of things like going to pick out a tree as a family, traveling to a new location for the holiday, or maybe even changing the menu for what you’ll be eating. Traditionally you have turkey on thanksgiving and maybe a ham for Christmas, but what if you had a little bit of surprise to the table? A low country boil for you seafood lovers brings a different flavor to the mix. Maybe you want to keep it simple and have finger foods like dips, sliders, and veggie trays so that way you have more time with family instead of spending all your time in the kitchen.
Find fun activities whether it’s in your own hometown or maybe down the street. Parades, ice skating rings, pumpkin patches, are a few activities the kids will enjoy. When the sun starts to set find the houses with the most decorations and colorful lights, make it a competition to see who wins the most festive home. Don’t forget to make time for rest for yourself and your family. Schedule an evening at home in jammies in front of the fire to watch a holiday movie with popcorn and cocoa.
