Ready? Set! Game time!

Let’s get ready for some football

In the south there is nothing better than when that favorite time of the year comes around, and football comes back into season. Fire up the grill, tailgate with some friends, or just staying inside relaxing on the couch in front of your TV, football season brings so many fun activities and great recipes to try. Take the time to prep your yard, grills, and inside the home to keep it clean and of course ready to take on the weekends.

Start with the yard

Although with cooler weather you do not have to mow the lawn as often as you do in the summertime, it does still need some attention. Plants tend to get a little overgrown toward the end of the summer so that means it is time to prune. Pruning your garden and cutting back perennials in the fall can lead to more flowers for the next year. Make sure to keep your lawn hydrated. Cut the grass as short as possible to reduce the chance of snow mold forming.

Next the equipment

Preparing those outdoor appliances can really help so that way nothing springs mold, causes rust, or even stops little creatures from trying to stay warm from the cold. First do a really good deep clean this will give you a clean start to prep. Change out anything that needs to be replaced, like the propane tanks. Clean all of the dust and dirt off the outside of the grill and find a really good cover for an extra layer of protection. Before you store any of your furniture, make sure it is clean and dry.

Fire up the grill

Burgers, hot dogs, and even steaks are delicious choices to throw on the grill for an event, but are you open to doing something different? Make it a little Greek with kabobs and hummus, a thick and seasoned pork chop would be a great hit, or even making your own pizza and wings will definitely be a game changer. Dips are so easy to make, get a crock pot or even a pan to throw on the grill and melt a bunch of cheeses, seasonings, and meats to make those dips come to life. Charcuterie boards are the number one center pieces to have on tables whether it be a beautiful arrangement of fruits or vegetables, or make it an appetizer board with cheese, crackers, and meats. There are endless ways to make it your own.

Bring on the games

Having entertainment besides that flat screen can provide an arrangement of things to do during your weekend events that can benefit all ages. Corn hole, volleyball, even a table for board games provide everything you need to set up a great event. A couple of out of the box ideas you could do is a screen projector for another screen for the kids’ movies to play, because we all know that if Toy Story is playing then who isn’t going to sit down and watch it? Another idea could be a large dry eraser board to draw on or play Pictionary. Lastly, for those colder nights bring out the smores and build a cozy fire to keep warm with.
